001:  3 QUESTIONS

JACK SKIPPER

For our first Journal of 3 Questions, we caught up with comedian and creator Jack Skipper. Moving between stage time and family life, Skipper has built a loyal audience through sharp wit and everyday relatable-honesty.

In a 1970s community hall in Ewell, Surrey (a rather random half-way meeting point), I met with the infectious personality of Jack Skipper to simply get to know him through vulnerability, identity, and aspiration.

What’s something people get wrong about you?

I've been referred to in reviews as a no nonsense gezzer, which is not not the case. I'm not a geezer. I'm a delicate little flower.

And the idea that I’m “no nonsense”… some of the stuff that goes on in my head - it’s definitely nonsense.

I can get quite emotional. If I see a proud parent, I’m done. I’m in bits.

"You put a version of yourself out on stage."
When do you feel most like yourself?

I’d like to say on stage, but I don’t know if that’s fully true. You put a version of yourself out there. Well, I do. It’s me - just amplified.

I probably feel most like myself when I’m creating something. When I’m working on an idea, building it, figuring it out. That feels right.

But also, just being at home with the family. Saturday night TV - Gladiators and The 1% Club - just chilling. That’s pretty close to it.

What does a sweet future look like to you?

I’ve always lived in built-up parts of London, but I could see myself out in the sticks one day. Proper countryside living. A little farm, maybe. Get myself a gilet and some wellies. Living off the fat of the land.

A closing tune to my current mood:
